ਜੈਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਪਰ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਦੂਖਨਾ ਲਉ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਲਉ ਨ ਆਵਈ ।
Just as the mind runs after other’s woman, other’s wealth and vituperation of others,
it does not come to the refuge of the True Guru and assembly of noble people.
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਾਧੀਨ ਹੀਨ ਦੀਨਤਾ ਮੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨ ਲਗਾਵਈ ।
Just as the mind remains involved in inferior, disrespectful service of others,
it does not do similar service of the True Guru and holy assembly of saintly persons.
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਨੁ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਮਗਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਠਹਿਰਾਵਈ ।
Just as the mind remains engrossed in the worldly affairs,
it does not attach itself with the adulations of God arid pious congregation.
ਕੂਕਰ ਜਿਉ ਚਉਚ ਕਾਢਿ ਚਾਕੀ ਚਾਟਿਬੇ ਕਉ ਜਾਇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੀਠੀ ਲਾਗੀ ਦੇਖੈ ਤਾਹੀ ਪਾਛੈ ਧਾਵਈ ॥੨੩੫॥
Just as a dog runs to lick the millstone,
so does a greedy person run after him with whom he sees the sweet avarice of maya. (235)
